Client Spotlight: Indra Books

As with just about everything else, real estate has had to make major adjustments due to the current global pandemic. Since the shutdowns started this spring, paperwork has been signed virtually, open houses have been masked, and door knobs have been sanitized. Luckily we’ve been able to pivot without much struggle, but our client Indra Books presented a new challenge: selling a home in Washington, DC while she was still abroad in Spain. 

As Indra details in blog posts on her website (click here for Part 1 and here for Part 2), she started a business in Spain, and by the end of 2019, she decided it was time to sell her home in DC. Unfortunately, her plans to come back to the US to oversee her home sale in the spring were thrown off course by global shutdowns.

Luckily for Indra, Cara was happy to take the reins and make the selling process as seamless as possible, even from 3,000 miles away. From preparing the home for market, to safely coordinating showings, to handling the legal and financial nuts and bolts, Cara was proactive with making sure this anything-but-ordinary home sale would be a success.

Less than 24 hours after photos were taken, the house was listed. In her blog post, Indra writes, “I had no expectation whatsoever that the house was going to sell during these difficult times. However, the next day the neighbor sent me a picture. There was a line down the street of people waiting to get into the house. [Cara] insisted on everyone taking as many precautions as they could. Hand sanitizer, one viewing at a time, social distancing while waiting, etc.”

By the following Monday, just three days on the market, she received five offers. As Indra writes, “An unbelievable thing had happened. The house went from fully furnished to under contract in 15 days, and I wasn’t even there.” Selling a home quickly for a client is always rewarding, but this unique experience was especially thrilling for Cara.

When asked about her experience working with Cara, Indra writes, “Working with Cara and her team isn't work at all. Selling my house in the middle of a pandemic could have been a nightmare, but Cara was as flexible as she could be to ensure we could work with the ever-changing requirements. The house was listed and under contract in 3 days with multiple offers.”
